Meet Little Diva
This Little Diva is a one-year-old porcupine who was attacked by a dog and ended up with a very injured and raw-looking tail. They were in a heightened state of distress by the time they arrived at Living Sky Wildlife Rehabilitation in Season 1 of STAYING WILD, unable to lay down their quills. No one could get close enough to figure out if they were a boy or a girl, but they were definitely very angry!
It was critical to get Little Diva two doses of yucky medicine a day for two weeks before they could be sent back to the wild. It was a huge struggle for all involved, especially because the porcupine was never happy in captivity and found it hard to even eat.
Were the staff able to keep them alive through the critical 28 doses of antibiotics? Watch Season 1 of STAYING WILD to find out!
Porcupines are usually extremely sweet creatures who happily waddle around eating branches. Until they are scared or threatened of course. Respect the power of the quills! They easily come loose as a porcupine whips its tail. Hundreds of these barbed missiles can embed themselves in the skin and move deeper increasing risk of serious infection to the recipient.
